Collaboration and Career Paths

Now that the producer mainly has a deep knowledge of the production industry and how it is done, it is better to get an advanced and in-depth knowledge in everything in the process. That includes becoming an expert in mixing, choosing software, getting tempos right, etc.

In addition, this process should include trying to remake certain tracks. For example, people make remixes of songs that have already been produced. This way the producer is forced to listen attentively and to focus on new ideas. This not only exposes you to other artists tracks and ideas but it also allows you to build off someone else’s work. Granted, don’t go and steal anyone’s ideas!

Collaboration

Collaboration is key once the producer has made a few tracks they are proud of. There are so many reasons why collaboration with other artists is a smart idea…

  • You pick up tricks and tips from other artists and producers
  • You learn to work well with other people and communicate ideas
  • You learn how to make compromises
  • You build relationships with like-minded people
  • You build your brand by leveraging other’s audiences/fanbases

In this stage as well, it’s important to understand if you want to produce music as a hobby or as a profession, and if a profession then to start right away. It’s important to start small, social media has made that a lot easier. Anyone can release their music on SoundCloud or YouTube and inform their friends about it. It’s important to try and contact some commerical or film workers to try and make a name for yourself!

The producer should keep in mind that each stage listed in this blog may take from months up to years, so stay patient!
